3.Environment

The Group has identified the environment as a priority area within our activities to contribute to society.
With a commitment to environmental conservation, we strive to preserve and protect the global environment.

Activities as a Reforestation Partner

Kanagawa Prefecture obtains most of its water from the Sagami River and the Sako River, both of which originate on Mt. Fuji. Preservation of this water source area has become a challenge.
Group member the Bank of Yokohama endorses the Kanagawa Reforestation 50 Year Plan that seeks to pass on the rich bounty of Kanagawa Prefecture's forests to the next generation. Companies endorsing the scheme take action as Reforestation Partners to work with Kanagawa Prefecture for reforestation.
Employees of the bank engage in forest conservation activities in the prefectural 21st Century Forest and work to raise awareness of climate change, biodiversity, and natural capital.

Participation in community activities

As a financial institution with deep roots in the community, the Group cooperates with local residents in cleanup campaigns and other activities to help create beautiful cities.
In November 2022, the Bank of Yokohama participated in a beach cleanup activity led by government, businesses, NPOs, and local residents to protect beautiful beaches.

Urban greening activities

In cooperation with greening activities by the city of Yokohama, in 2013 Group member the Bank of Yokohama donated ten grown trees and five flower beds to the plaza in front of JR Sakuragicho Station. Expressing a wish to welcome local residents and tourists with seasonal flowers, the bank named the flower bed "Bank of Yokohama Fureai Hanadan (Connection Flowerbed)". Since then, seasonal flowers are cultivated there so that the flower beds colorfully adorn this entranceway to the Minato Mirai 21 district and create a place of relaxation for all.
